Over 260 Enterprises Gather, Ranked Among National Top 100 for Six Consecutive Years

As summer tides rise, innovation ignites. Recently, the 2026 Biomanufacturing Innovation Competition, guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, kicked off in Wuqing under the theme "Innovation-Driven, Smart Manufacturing for a New Era." This national event not only gathered top industry forces but also once again turned the spotlight on the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Area – a biomedical industry highland that has ranked among the nation's top 100 for six consecutive years.

Collaboration Across Industry, Academia, Application, and Funding – Building an Ecosystem for Technology Transfer

At the competition's opening ceremony, several leading enterprises in the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Area, including Yuanhecheng, Tsingke Biotechnology, Novogene, and Huacan Bio, joined hands with academic institutions and financial capital to jointly launch a biomanufacturing innovation ecosystem. This initiative directly addresses bottlenecks in research commercialization: by facilitating upstream and downstream coordination across the industrial chain and enabling targeted capital empowerment, it provides tangible early-stage support and sustained backing for projects – from laboratory to production line, from technological achievement to industrial product. As the primary driver of the district's economy, the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Area has consistently prioritized the biomedical industry. Leveraging its geographic advantage – "R&D in Beijing and Tianjin, transformation in Wuqing" – the zone focuses on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, precision medicine, synthetic biology, and other fields. It continuously strengthens, complements, extends, and solidifies the industrial chain, having formed a full-spectrum ecosystem covering R&D, transformation, production, and services. It has become a core hub for biomedical technology transfer and industrial agglomeration in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

A Layered Enterprise Structure Strengthens the Industrial Backbone

After years of cultivation, the biomedical industry cluster in the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Area has shown increasingly prominent effects. Currently, the zone has gathered over 260 high-quality enterprises. A number of these companies specialize in niche sectors, hold core technologies, and capture market opportunities; many achievements have filled domestic industrial gaps, reaching domestic leading and internationally advanced levels. The industry's scale has steadily expanded, its structure has become more refined, and development quality continues to improve. For instance, BMC Medical focuses on respiratory health medical devices, selling its products to hundreds of countries and regions worldwide, with a market share consistently ranking at the industry's forefront. Zhongji Genomic Medicine has overcome key challenges in gene therapy, achieving breakthroughs in clinical treatment of difficult diseases. Tsingke Biotechnology has built a full-chain platform for gene synthesis and biopharmaceutical intelligent manufacturing, establishing a pathway "from gene design to drug output." Today, a tiered pattern featuring leading enterprises setting the pace and small and medium-sized enterprises following closely has fully taken shape, laying a solid foundation for continuous upgrading of the biomedical industry.

An Optimized Innovation Ecosystem – A Continuous Surge of Scientific and Technological Momentum

The joint launch of the biomanufacturing innovation ecosystem with local enterprises is a key step by the Wuqing Economic and Technological Development Area to deepen the integration of "government, industry, academia, research, finance, and application" and to activate biomanufacturing innovation. Leveraging research institutions such as the Tianjin University Frontier Research Institute for Synthetic Biology, the Beijing University of Chemical Technology Wuqing Industry-University-Research Base, and the Nankai University Jikun New Drug R&D Platform, the zone continuously builds dedicated platforms for university-enterprise collaboration, technological breakthroughs, and results transfer. These efforts turn innovation resources from "stock" into "increments" and guide research outcomes from "laboratories" to "production lines." At the same time, the zone constantly improves its science and technology services, striving to build a full-cycle, specialized support system for industrial development. It integrates high-quality resources – talent, technology, capital, markets, and policies – precisely aligning with core enterprise needs and removing bottlenecks to innovation and growth. Regular collaboration and resource sharing among companies along the industrial chain further amplify the synergistic effects of the cluster, allowing the endogenous momentum of biomedical innovation to flow freely.
