New energy vehicles and intelligent networked vehicles have become the new direction for the development of the automotive industry,and the national"14th Five-Year Plan"outlines the layout of new energy vehicles and intelligent networked vehicles as the national manufacturing core competitiveness enhancement areas.In Wuqing Development Zone,there is an enterprise specializing in the research,development,production and sales of brake by wire system for new energy vehicles-Tianjin Edge Rock Precision Technology Co(hereinafter referred to as Edge Rock).It is an incubated project of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy Conservation of Tsinghua University.

Studied and grew up in Tsinghua University and started a business in Wuqing
Zhao Xun,the CEO of Edge Rock,is a postdoctoral fellow at Tsinghua University with 9 years of experience in vehicle engineering research and 5 years of experience in auto parts industry.Talking about the reason why Edge Rock settled in Wuqing Development Zone,Zhao Xun said,"My relationship with Wuqing starts from a few years ago.At that time,I followed my advisor to Wuqing for research,and I deeply felt the good investment environment and industrial base here,as well as the convenient transportation and abundant medical and educational resources.The most crucial thing is that the government and park services are in place,so that people can work without distractions."In April 2021,Zhao Xun chose to set up Edge Rock in Wuqing Development Zone,and formed a core management team consisting of graduates from the School of Vehicles of Tsinghua University and senior practitioners of auto parts to start the business journey.
Aiming at market demand to achieve innovative breakthroughs
Advanced braking system is the core component of vehicle electrification and intelligence,and the energy recovery and brake by wire functions are crucial.With multiple advantages of technical innovation,cost optimization and high efficiency of vehicle development,the brake by wire system for commercial vehicles developed by Edge Rock has achieved full coverage of energy saving and intelligent functions of commercial vehicles with higher degree of integration.Through technical innovation,the product not only meets heavy-duty braking performance but also supports high-level automatic driving requirements,and is the only hydraulic intelligent braking system developed for mass production of commercial vehicles.

"Compared with the traditional braking system,our product can reduce the cost of the whole vehicle braking system by 30%-50%when applied to traditional commercial vehicles and more than 70%when applied to new energy commercial vehicles.At the same time,the product has excellent energy-saving performance,supports deep brake energy recovery function,can realize full decoupling brake energy recovery.With the original range of 300km,the pure electric range can be increased by 17%,51km more range.The use of full closed-loop control reduces the dependence on other systems of the vehicle and shortens the model development cycle by 70%."Zhao Xun introduced.
Currently,Edge Rock is in full production,with an expected annual production capacity of 500,000 sets of electronic hydraulic brake systems(EHB)for commercial vehicles.
Focus on team building to lead innovation development
In the first half of this year,Zhao Xun won the National Outstanding Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the 1st National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.The project of"Light Commercial Vehicle Integrated Brake by Wire System Industrialization"won the bronze prize in the new energy field in the entrepreneurship category of the 1st National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition."The integrated brake by wire system developed by our team provides an independent route to upgrade the braking system technology of commercial vehicles and a new entry point to break the market monopoly of foreign suppliers.At present,the project products have completed the second generation prototype trial production and achieved the trial operation of loading vehicles.”Zhao Xun introduced.At present,the team of Edge Rock has owned more than 30 invention patents and 5 software copyrights related to the product.
Zhao Xun said,"As a technology-based company,talents are crucial to us.Edge Rock will build a team of high-end talents with 985/211 undergraduates and postgraduates as the main force,with doctors,post-docs and senior engineers in the industry as the core.We will establish industry-academia-research alliances with Tsinghua University,Yanshan University,Beijing University of Technology,Jilin University and other universities,and establish intelligent vehicle industry development alliances with well-known self-driving,radar and camera companies in the industry,such as Huanyu Zhixing and Motovis,and strive to promote continuous innovation and development of the industry."
